Viking Cloak
Hazel had arranged another visit to Wendy Erskine of Eden Textiles , to view her recently created Viking Cloak . This magnificent (and veryheavy) garment has been made entirely by hand using the Viking knot. Arbigland House and John Paul Jones museum
A small group of members from the Art Appreciation and Historic Houses and Gardens groups visited the John Paul Jones cottage and museum, and Arbigland House , in the grounds of which the cottage is situated. We learned a lot about the various links from this area to the early days of the USA and…
- Oct - visit the studio of potter Hannah McAndrews. We had a very informative visit to the studio of potters Fitch & McAndrew where we were given a demonstration & explanation in the art of pot making & shown some platters that are being made for King Charles.
- Aug - Kirkcudbright Galleries. The exhibition is The 2025 Scottish Landscape Awards.
- July - Broughton House, Kirkcudbright
- June - Visit to Wendy Erskine's studio (Eden Textiles).
- April - Visit to Challoch Church. Talk by Rosemary Green on history of church & the spectacular windows.
- Feb 2025 - visit to The Gallery on St. Mary Street Kirkcudbright. Mary Queen of Scots silver casket is part of the exhibition.
- September - visit to Wendy Erskine of Eden Textiles to view her recently created Viking Cloak.
- July - visit to the Kirkcudbright Gallery for an exhibition of work by renowned portrait painter Henry Raeburn. Alexander Robb & Hugh Brydon also have work on view.
- June - Arbigland House near Dumfries (joint meeting with Local History and Historic Buildings)

- April - visit to view the windows at Sorbie Church, Millisle. We were joined by members of other groups to view the outstanding windows that were made by famous glass designer Christopher Whall. We were extremely fortunate to have Morag, one of the church elders, tell us the history of the church & talk us through the stories told in the windows.
- March - a workshop felting, led by Wendy Erskine
- February - a Snowdrop Walk
- January 2024 - Planning meeting
- November - studio visit to local landscape artist.
- October - collection of tapestry & embroidered pictures, and lace at a member's home
- September - studio visit and workshop cancelled due to ill health of host
- August - a conducted tour of the historic graveyard in Minnigaff Parish Church in Newton Stewart, led by our member Elbeth.
- July - visit to Lucy Wright, a local art restorer for a demonstration and talk of her work. Our members were left in awe of the work this husband & wife team achieve. They demonstrated and explained the process from receiving damaged paintings into the studio, stripping them down, cleaning, rebonding, and touching up before finally varnishing and reframing them.
- June - visit to Kirkcudbright Gallery where it was first day of two new exhibitions. Featured artists: Joan Eardley who is famous for her paintings of Glasgow children playing on streets, and Ewan McClure (resident artist at Broughton House).
- April - tour of three exhibitions held in Kirkcudbright Galleries. Two where very traditional artworks and the third was a collection of work from sixty studios across Scotland.
- March - visit to the studio of weaver Wendy Erskine.
- February - Snowdrop walk and a visit to Creetown Church.
- January 2023 - Guest speaker local artist Rosie Dobson from Fountain Croft Studio (Bladnoch).
