No matter whether you take photos on your phone or have been using a camera for years, there is something for you to enhance your hobby. Members of the photography group share a vast array of different interests and levels of expertise.
To date we have had a masterclass on how to enhance that dubious picture, a video on taking portraits plus discussion groups on scenic work and problem solving.
We have also introduced practical challenges for those who wish to put into practice what they have learned. For the beginner there are Q & A sessions plus mentoring. We all have something to share.
Next meeting
Tuesday 9th June, 10:00, The Merse (small hall).
New members are most welcome to our friendly group!
Each month we set a challenge and the results are displayed at the following meeting. This month's theme is 'Clouds’ . Please note that photographs must be taken between meeting dates.
All Wigtownshire U3A members are welcome to send in any past or present photographs that have captured your imagination or eye and would like to share with the group.
A selection on photos from last month's challenge 'Texture’ appear in the post below.

Previous meeting
September 2025
The September meeting in our new venue at The Merse in Wigtown was spent busily framing the photos chosen for a photography display at The Merse, as part of the Wigtown Book Festival.
March 2025
We welcomed a new member, Kate, so we now have a nice gender balance and a mix of skills and experience in the group, that will help us to learn from each other.
We were very happy with the enthusiastic response to the Photography Group’s display at the U3A AGM and we intend to make this an annual event. Follow the link above to see a selection of photos from the AGM exhibition.
The group is now working on our next project which will be a display of photographs for the Wigtown Book festival. The March photo challenge is kickstarting the project with a theme of “local places or people with a literary connection”.
February 2025
The group firmed up our proposals for an exhibition of members’ photographs and a therapeutic photography walk for the Wigtown Book Festival and we also made preparations for displaying members’ photographs at the U3A AGM on 28th February. We hope this exhibition will inspire more members of all abilities to join our friendly group!
Pat treated the group to a demonstration of a pair of binoculars, which take photos and videos, using AI and infra red technology, to take images in darkness.
January 2025
The group were delighted to welcome back Jane and Pat. It’s good to have you back!
A special thanks to Stuart, u3a technical support officer, for making a special trip to deliver the laptop. Stuart also delivered a USB stick with photo group photos from past meetings, which past members may be interested in?
We discussed ideas for a photo group contribution to the Wigtown Book Festival u3a sessions and considered photos for a display at the next u3a AGM.
