Protect Yourself From Cybercrime and Fraud
Page last updated
Everyone is potentially vulnerable to cybercrime and old-fashioned fraud; older generations are favoured targets for ruthless crooks; and the anxieties of Covid-19 and the increased reliance on the Internet have created additional risks.
On this page you will find links to guidance on staying safe. Our thanks to D&G Police for their assistance. You can also see the Met Police guides to staying safe from fraud on their website which also has video and audio versions. A selection of guides is also available via the links below.
Please remember the A-B-C rule:
- A - Accept nothing
- B - Believe no-one
- C - Confirm everything.
New fraud hotline 159
A potential victim who dials 159 will be automatically connected to their bank's fraud prevention service. Anyone who receives a call or message from somebody claiming to be from a trusted organisation and who suggests money should be transferred is being urged to hang up and call 159.
