October 2024 - Tal-y-Fan

In October the Gardening Group visited Tal-y-Fan near Gatehouse, which has opened under Scotland's Garden Scheme this year for the first time.  The house was built by Welsh owners in 1969, and is named after a mountain in North Wales.  The current owners, Sarah and Janet, who have lived there for ten years, are continuing to develop the garden, which has a wide variety of plants and other features, such as "the great wall of wood" made from cut down trees, and a mini Stonehenge.  It is quite a hilly garden, with wonderful views over the Fleet Valley, and some beautiful autumn colour.  The owners intend the garden to be colourful from spring to autumn, and have invited us to go back next year, preferably in spring.  It was a very interesting and enjoyable visit.
