The Local history/historic buildings group were fascinated today at their visit to Old Place of Mochrum. This is a lived-in home so we were only shown the room currently used by shooting parties refreshments. We went into the Bailey and the gardens.

Monica gave us a detailed history of the castle and its family. The castle has never been sold, ownership passed on through family members. The Mochrum estate comprises 16,000 acres and is the home of the world renowned herd of Belted Galloway cattle founded by the late Flora Stuart.
