September 2024 - Fernlea

On a beautiful sunny afternoon In September the Gardening Group visited Fernlea in Newton Stewart, which opens under Scotland's Gardens Scheme.  The owner, Jenny, gave us a tour of the garden, which was created in 2006, and which includes flower beds, espalier fruit trees trained against the side of the house, Galloway pippin apple trees in the area behind the house, a herb garden, a Chinese garden, strawberries, a small pond, and ferns, after which the house was named.  Over tea and scones in the conservatory Jenny talked about her project to start a community orchard in Minnigaff.
