Next meetings

1st April and 6th May

Previous meetings

  • December - 15 minutes of the meeting were set apart for writing a short story, based on one of the pictures the members brought along. It's fascinating how different stories can be, based on the same picture!
  • October - Writers Question Time event at the Wigtown Book Festival featuring a panel of local writers
  • March 2025 - 3 minutes pitches by members about something they have written, are writing or would like to write
  • September - writing for the theatre. Janet D. performed her monologue about a cat and a fall. Janet was invited by the group, specially because of her experiences with preparing her monologue (which together with nine other monologues became a kind of play in June in Catstrand). Group members Lin and Chris presented their first few acts of a play, based on the world famous painting 'The Wave' by the Japanese painter Hokusai. Liam asked for comment on a text for a crowdfunding initiative.
  • July - Chris and Lin were taking us through a play they have written and adapted.
  • June - start of a shared online journal for sharing reflections on a wide range of subjects, month by month
  • May - members are invited to bring in anything they are uncomfortable with or unsure of: maybe an actual piece of writing you have struggled to finish or something you want to write about or an aspect of writing you find challenging.
  • April - members were challenged by Lin to write a short story about ‘something irrelevant’ in a movie, on a painting or whatever. Easy to say … Still, there were some interesting texts and views.
  • March - a member read from part of his recent narrative non fiction book: ‘Share?’ and invited comments and thoughts re possibilities for publication!
  • November - more work on writing dialogue whilst also benefitting from a brilliant short workshop exercise from one of the group members about a very creative way to devise and plan plotlines and new ideas
  • October - continuing the theme of writing dialog for the page and for performance.
  • September - members wrote a short piece of dialogue (without any wider context) to discuss and explore dialogue as part of the creative writing process.
  • August - In August, a group member composed and presented a fascinating conversation between the Devil and her secretary. In the voice of the Secretary, all group members composed their own responses, which we shared and read aloud. A very interesting discussion followed.
