Our members have a diverse range of gardening interests and experience and we often visit members’ gardens to learn from their successes – and occasionally failures! – and try to help with problem areas.
We share plants, cuttings material and seeds, and specialist techniques such as preparing entries for flower and vegetable shows.
We also gain inspiration from visits to some of the amazing gardens in the area, including some that are not normally open to the public, and invite the occasional speaker to benefit from their expertise.
Themed meetings have included apple and potato days, but we find time to relax and socialise too.

August 2025 - Dumfries House and Gardens
In August the Gardening Group joined with the Local History and Historic Buildings Group to visit Dumfries House and gardens. - February - In February the Gardening Group held a "show and tell" meeting at The Merse, Wigtown, when members brought items that they found useful for gardening. These included books, magazines, websites, tools and tips which could be helpful to others.
- January 2026 - The Gardening Group held a very successful and enjoyable "bring and share" lunch plus planning meeting at Jacqui and Ian's house. A lot of good suggestions were made for places to visit throughout the year.
